Revanth Reddy Issues 'Unconditional' Apology For His Remark On K Kavitha's Bail

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy issued an "unconditional" apology on Friday for his recent remarks regarding BRS leader K Kavitha receiving bail in a money-laundering case.

His apology followed a stern reprimand from the Supreme Court, which expressed concern over his comments suggesting that the bail was the result of a "deal" between former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's party, the BRS, and the ruling BJP.

The Supreme Court, while addressing the matter, questioned the appropriateness of such statements from someone holding a constitutional post.

The court remarked, "Should a person holding a constitutional post make such statements? There should be mutual respect (between politicians and judiciary)... how can anyone say we pass orders for political reasons?" The court further cautioned, "If you do not respect (us) then we will send (your) trial elsewhere."

In response, Chief Minister Reddy took to X to clarify his stance and express his respect for the judiciary. He wrote, "I understand that certain press reports dated 29th August, 2024 containing comments attributed to me have given the impression that I am questioning the judicial wisdom of the Hon'ble Court. I reiterate that I am a firm believer of the judicial process. I unconditionally express my regret for the statements reflected in the press reports. The remarks attributed to me in such reports have been taken out of context. I have unconditional respect & highest regard for the Judiciary & its independence. As a firm believer in the Constitution of India and its ethos, I have and continue to hold the Judiciary in its highest esteem."

Reddy's comments initially arose after Kavitha was granted bail in the Delhi liquor policy case. At the time, he alleged, "It is a fact that BRS worked for the victory of the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha poll. There is also talk Kavitha got bail because of the deal between BRS and BJP."

This is not the first time Reddy has been vocal about his views on the case.

Earlier in March, following the arrest of Ms. Kavitha by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the case, Reddy had labeled the incident a "soap opera," accusing BRS leader K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of orchestrating "political dramas" in the state.
