Hyderabad, Oct 30: Andhra Pradesh chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday, Oct 30 ordered a probe into the Volvo bus accident case in which 45 people were charred to death in the state.
The CM, expressing his anguish and shock, directed the district collector and superintendent of police to conduct a thorough probe and submit a report. He also directed officials to provide all the help to the injured and the families of the victims.
The accident took place on Bangalore-Hyderabad national highway in Mahbubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh in the wee hours of Wednesday. According to sources, the AC bus, with 47 passengers on board, was going from Bangalore to Hyderabad.
While some passengers managed to jump to safety after breaking the emergency window, most of them were killed. Most of the passengers in the bus were from Hyderabad.
Senior police officials too rushed to the spot. Traffic on the highway came to a standstill following the accident. Police officials informed that a list of only 29 passengers was received from the private bus travels. Other passengers boarded the bus enroute.
It has been informed that the Volvo bus, which belongs to Jabbar Travels, left Bangalore at 10:00 pm on Tuesday and was scheduled to reach Hyderabad the next day at 6:30 am. All passengers were asleep around 5:30 am when the bus hit the culvert.
Eyewitnesses said that the bus was reduced to ashes within few minutes. The victims were charred beyond recognition. The bus driver, his helper and three other passengers succeeded to escape the tragedy.
