Major Security Operation In Bijapur: Three Maoists Killed, Top Leaders Surrounded In Chhattisgarh-Telangana Bo

In the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh's Karregatta highlands, a massive security operation aimed at Maoist militants is presently in progress. Three Maoists were killed in the operation, which was started by combined forces from Telangana and Chhattisgarh. Police have collected the remains of the deceased.

Officials said the area, which has been surrounded by security forces, is home to a sizable Maoist population. One of the biggest operations to date along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border, the encounter was described as heated and continuous and started in response to intelligence inputs.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), its elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (Cobra), the District Reserve Guard, the Special Task Force, and Telangana's Greyhound Force are among the forces participating in the combined operation, which has been underway since Monday. An estimated 150 Maoists are encircled in the area, and the conflict has lasted for three days.

Key Maoist leaders including Hidma, Deva, and Damodar-each with a Rs one crore bounty-are reportedly among those trapped. As the operation progresses, officials anticipate neutralizing a number of high-ranking rebels.

Also, approximately 100 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) have been found by security officers scattered across the Karegutta hill range. To protect the safety of advancing forces, these landmines are being removed continuously.

The crackdown follows the distribution of leaflets by a Telangana cadre Maoist commander cautioning the local villagers to avoid the Karregutta forest and hill regions due to the existence of placed bombs for Maoist defense. Joint forces entered the region in defiance of these warnings in an effort to destroy what has long been regarded as a Maoist bastion.

This most recent attack comes after a string of other anti-Maoist operations in recent months, especially in the districts of Sukma and Dantewada, where security forces were able to kill important militants and cripple their bases. Another important step in the larger battle to reduce Maoist influence and stabilize the area is the current mission in Bijapur.
