Leaders visit rain-hit Andhra; Chiranjeevi falls into water

Hyderabad, Oct 29: Various political leaders visited those affected in the heavy rain in Andhra Pradesh over the past few days. A total of 53 people have died in the state so far, including at least three farmers who committed suicide after their crops were destroyed in the field. Thousands of hectares were submerged by the incessant rain. The three cases of suicides were reported from Nalgonda, Nizamabad and Mahbubnagar districts.

Srikakulam and Nalgonda districts were the worst affected in the state. Nearly 5,200 villages in 16 districts were badly affected. Over 42,000 houses were damaged and over two lakh people were taken to safer places.

Besides Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu, actor-turned-politician and Union minister Chiranjeevi and YSR Congress leader YS Vijayamma visited the rain-affected areas on Monday. Chiranjeevi accidentally fell into flood waters during his visit to East Godavari district.
