Hyderabad, Oct 24: Heavy downpour crippled Hyderabad and also led to the death of six persons in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Telangana on Wednesday. Twenty villages were cut off after a culvert in Bhogapuram mandal in Vizianagaram crumbled due to heavy rain.
Wednesday saw Hyderabad getting three-times more rainfall than that recorded on Tuesday. Areas like Khairatabad, Dilsukhnagar, Chintalbasti, Vanasthalipuram, L.B. Nagar, Secunderabad, Lakdikapul, Nampally and Abids were completely waterlogged.
Five persons, including three students, and one elderly woman died in AP
Among the dead, five including three students are from Prakasam district who were washed away while returning home while an elderly woman died when a wall collapsed on her in Guntur district.
The Meteorological department predicted intermittent rain and thundershowers in Hyderabad for the next 24 hours. Civic authorities said the emergency teams were ready to deal with the water-logging issue. They said water has been drained out from most areas. People were, however, worried over the spread of water-borne disease.
