Hyderabad Weather Today: Heavy Rain, Lightning Likely As IMD Sounds 3-Day Yellow Alert

Hyderabad is expected to witness a sharp weather shift on Saturday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms after days of intense summer heat. The weather department has issued a yellow alert for Hyderabad and several parts of Telangana for the next three days, warning residents of rain, lightning and squally conditions.

Hyderabad likely to see relief after intense heat spell

For the past several days, Hyderabad has been reeling under severe summer temperatures, with daytime conditions remaining harsh across the city and surrounding districts. While rain is likely to arrive later in the day, the heat is not expected to ease immediately.

Weather forecasts suggest that temperatures in several Telangana districts may climb up to 45 degrees Celsius by the afternoon before storm activity begins in the evening. In Hyderabad, the mercury is expected to hover around 41 to 42 degrees Celsius during the day.

Telangana Weatherman predicts powerful evening storms

Popular weather forecaster T Balaji, widely known as Telangana Weatherman for his accurate local forecasts, also flagged the possibility of severe thunderstorms later today.

Posting on X, he warned residents across the state to prepare for strong weather activity after the daytime heat.

According to his forecast, most districts in Telangana could experience intense thunderstorms from the evening hours and the conditions may continue until night.

IMD warns of lightning, squalls across Telangana till April 22

Along with the rain alert, IMD Hyderabad has also issued a warning for lightning and squally winds, indicating that unstable weather conditions are likely to persist across much of Telangana in the coming days.

The department has said that most districts in the state are likely to witness thunderstorms until Wednesday, April 22. In Hyderabad, apart from rain-related activity, hazy conditions are also expected during the morning hours through Wednesday.

The yellow alert signals the possibility of weather conditions that may disrupt normal movement and outdoor plans, especially during the late evening and night hours.

Residents advised to plan travel as weather may disrupt movement

With thunderstorms, lightning and gusty conditions expected over the next three days, Hyderabad residents have been advised to remain cautious and plan their travel accordingly. Sudden evening showers following extreme daytime heat could lead to traffic disruptions and localised inconvenience in several parts of the city.

Authorities are urging people to stay updated on official forecasts, particularly those commuting during evening hours or travelling across districts likely to be affected by storm activity.
