Hyderabad Techie Dies By Suicide At Home, Cops Probe Dowry Harassment Allegations

A software professional was found dead at her residence in Hyderabad on Monday, prompting the police to investigate all possible angles, including allegations of dowry harassment made by her mother.

According to Raidurgam police, the deceased, identified as K Devika, is suspected to have died by suicide.

She had reportedly argued with her husband, Satish Chandra, whom she married six months ago, before locking herself in her room on Sunday night.

It is believed that Satish left the house immediately afterwards and returned later that night.

The following morning, upon receiving no response from Devika, Satish discovered her unresponsive and alerted their neighbours, as well as Devika's mother, Ramalakshmi, who subsequently filed a complaint with the police.

In her statement, Ramalakshmi claimed that her daughter had taken the drastic step due to dowry-related harassment by Satish Chandra.

While residing in an apartment in Prashanthi Hills, Raidurgam, the couple frequently quarrelled over trivial matters, according to police reports.

Ramalakshmi further alleged that Satish subjected Devika to physical and emotional abuse, motivated by financial gain.

She stated that he had pressured her daughter to transfer ownership of a plot of land in Vikarabad, along with the apartment where Ramalakshmi resided, into his name.

She also raised concerns about how Satish could have been unaware of the incident occurring in the adjacent room of the same house.

The police have confirmed that no suicide note has been recovered from the residence.

"They previously worked together at the same company in Bengaluru and, after their marriage, relocated to Hyderabad to continue working at the same firm's local branch. They had frequent arguments over minor issues. We have received a complaint from the deceased's mother, and an investigation is currently underway," said an officer from Raidurgam police station.
