Hyderabad Speeds Up Land Acquisition For Old City Metro Corridor, Disburses ₹212 Crore In Compensation

Authorities report strong local cooperation as the land acquisition process for Hyderabad's Metro Rail's Old City segment moves quickly forward. NVS Reddy, managing director of Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML), commended the property owners for willingly accepting government compensation and donating their properties for the public infrastructure project.

The 7.5-kilometer extension runs from MG Bus Station (MGBS) to Chandrayangutta. Reddy claims that 205 of the roughly 1,100 impacted properties along this corridor have already received compensation, totaling Rs. 212 crores.

Along the route, engineering teams have been entrusted with carefully removing intricate networks of telephone, electric, and other utility cables. Demolition work is also currently underway. To guarantee safety, these utilities that caused delays in the demolition process are being carefully removed.

In collaboration with HAML's Revenue and Police departments, Metro Rail engineers are closely monitoring the ongoing land acquisition and demolition activities. Noting that numerous buildings have already been demolished and debris cleared to make way for road expansion, Reddy thanked the local property owners who have stepped up to support the project.

Additionally, he underlined that every precaution is being taken to ensure that no nearby sensitive buildings or structures are harmed during the demolition process. Although there was a slight slowdown in work during the month of Ramadan, the process has since resumed at full speed and is moving along without any problems.

According to Reddy, the Old City Metro expansion is progressing quickly. After the Central Government gives its final approval, the Metro line's actual construction will start. In the interim, preparatory activities, such as clearing and acquiring land, will go on in coordination with the appropriate departments.

The current phase of the Old City Metro Corridor is an important step toward achieving the goal of greatly improving connectivity in the area.
