Hyderabad News: GHMC Seals Property Linked To AIADMK's Former Leader J Jayalalithaa Over Tax Dues

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has sealed a residential property in Hyderabad associated with former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, citing unpaid property tax amounting to nearly ₹1.60 crore.

The house, located in Srinagar Colony, was locked by civic officials as part of recovery action ahead of the financial year's closure.

Repeated Notices, No Response

According to GHMC officials, multiple notices had been issued to the legal heirs and family members of Jayalalithaa regarding the pending dues. Despite repeated follow-ups, authorities said there was no response or effort to clear the outstanding amount, prompting enforcement action.

Tax Dispute Linked to Past Tenancy

Reports suggest the property had earlier been leased to businessman Vijay Mallya. Officials believe discrepancies in tax payments began during that period and continued to accumulate over the years.

With no resolution reached between the property's stakeholders and the civic body, the unpaid dues steadily increased.

Property Sealed for Revenue Recovery

After reviewing the arrears and failed communication attempts, GHMC teams visited the site and sealed the building. The move is aimed at recovering pending municipal revenue tied to the property.

The house will remain under seal until the dues are cleared or further action is taken by the authorities.
