Hyderabad: Newlywed Woman Dies by Suicide Over Dowry Harassment in Uppal
A 24-year-old woman ended her life after allegedly facing continuous mental and physical harassment from her husband and his relative for additional dowry.
According to Uppal Inspector Election Reddy, A. Manisha, daughter of Akula Mallaiah from Maddirala mandal in Suryapet district, fell in love with P. Sampath while they were pursuing a paramedical course. Sampath, a resident of Tungaturthi mandal, currently works as a lab technician at Niloufer Hospital.

The couple eloped and got married on February 14, 2024, at Arya Samaj in Uppal. They later moved to Ramanthapur. However, within a few months, Sampath allegedly began harassing and assaulting Manisha for additional dowry. His cousin, B. Muneetha, also reportedly pressured her for dowry.
Unable to bear the abuse, Manisha hanged herself from a ceiling fan on Sunday. Family members revealed that Sampath was involved in an extramarital affair, and despite Manisha's efforts to stop him, she was unsuccessful. Struggling with her troubled marriage, she ultimately took the drastic step.
"We knew Sampath was not a good person. We repeatedly asked Manisha to return home, but she refused," her grieving relatives said.
Uppal police have registered a case under Section 80 of the BNS against Sampath, and an investigation is underway.
