Hyderabad Metro Takeover In Final Stage, Telangana Govt Targets Completion By March 31, Operations Soon
The Telangana government has moved closer to assuming control of the Hyderabad Metro, with officials confirming the process is now in its concluding stage. Authorities are aiming to wrap up the transition before the end of the current financial year, signalling a major shift in the management of the city's urban transport network.

Reports To Be Placed Before Cabinet On February 23
As part of the takeover plan, the state has prepared detailed financial and technical assessments. These reports are scheduled to be presented to the state Cabinet on February 23 for approval.
The government has already initiated formal steps in the transition. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has been appointed as the technical consultant to guide the process, while IDBI has completed its role as the financial and legal adviser. A separate report outlining the outstanding dues payable to Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has also been submitted to the authorities.
Talks Underway With L&T
Officials indicated that discussions are currently taking place between Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited and L&T to finalise the agreements necessary for the transfer of operations. These negotiations are expected to resolve contractual and operational matters linked to the handover.
The administration believes Cabinet clearance will accelerate the procedure and allow departments to implement the required administrative and operational changes.
Government Aims To Finish Exercise By March 31
According to sources, the state government has set a firm deadline to complete the takeover by March 31. Once approved, departments will fast-track the remaining steps so the Metro system can move fully under government management within the financial year.
The move is seen as a significant decision for public transport in Hyderabad, potentially reshaping how the city's mass transit system is operated and funded in the future.
