Hyderabad Metro Increases Train Frequency On Key Corridors To Manage Heavy Passenger Rush

Hyderabad Metro services were ramped up on Wednesday as the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) Joint Action Committee strike disrupted bus movement across the state, forcing a sharp rise in passenger traffic on the city's metro network.

With RTC buses off the roads, thousands of daily commuters turned to the metro as their primary mode of travel, resulting in heavy rush at several stations during both morning and evening peak hours. The surge was particularly visible at major interchange stations and terminal points, where passenger movement rose significantly.

Metro frequency increased on key corridors

To handle the sudden jump in ridership, Hyderabad Metro increased train frequency on its busiest routes. On the Miyapur to LB Nagar corridor, services are now operating every four minutes. Meanwhile, trains on the Nagole to Raidurg route are being run at intervals of three minutes and 40 seconds to accommodate the higher commuter load.

The revised schedule has been introduced to ensure that passengers affected by the RTC strike can continue their daily travel with minimal disruption.

Extra trains deployed to manage crowd surge

Metro authorities said additional trains have been deployed across the network to prevent overcrowding and reduce waiting time at busy stations. Frequency adjustments were made after a visible spike in footfall was recorded across multiple parts of the city.

Officials noted that commuter numbers rose sharply during peak office hours, with platforms and coaches seeing unusually high occupancy compared to regular working days.

Staff deployed at busy stations for smooth movement

In view of the heavy passenger rush, security personnel and operational staff have been stationed at key metro stations to regulate commuter movement and maintain order. Their role includes managing queues, facilitating smoother boarding, and preventing congestion on platforms.

The move is aimed at ensuring that the increased passenger load does not lead to crowding-related delays or safety concerns.

Revised schedule to continue during RTC strike

Officials said the enhanced metro service pattern will remain in place for as long as the RTC strike continues to affect public transport services in Hyderabad.

With city bus operations severely impacted, the metro has emerged as the main travel option for a large section of commuters, prompting authorities to keep services flexible and responsive to daily passenger demand.
