Honour killing: Father kills daughter over suspicion of being in 'relationship'
Hyderabad, July 2: A mere suspicion that his daughter had a relationship with a man made a man so angry that he killed her, that too a day after her 18th birthday. The incident took place at a village in Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district, said reports.
The girl, Chandrika, had celebrated her birthday on Saturday (June 30). An undergraduate student of pharmacy, Chandrika had even cut a cake to celebrate her birthday.
Chandrika's father Kottaiah is said to have overheard her talking over the phone to someone on Sunday after which her grew suspicious that his daughter may have been involved in a relationship with a man.
In a fit of rage, Kottaiah allegedly hit Chandrika on the head with a wooden handle of an axe. The teen died on the spot, NDTV reported
The report also quotes police as saying the teen wanted to marry the man and had sought her family's approval now that she turned 18.
This was not acceptable to Kottaiah as he was worried about family's honour. This may have driven the father assault the daughter. Kottaiah has been arrested.
