Empowering Telangana’s Women: Revanth Reddy’s Vision for Gender Equality & Economic Growth

In a major push for women's empowerment, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has highlighted several initiatives aimed at improving financial independence, mobility, and economic opportunities for women across the state.

Transforming Public Transport for Women

Under the Mahalakshmi welfare scheme, Telangana's women can now travel for free on TSRTC buses, making public transport more accessible than ever. The scheme has already benefited over 150 crore women, with the government reimbursing ₹4,500 crore to RTC to sustain the program.

"For women to succeed, they need easy mobility. This initiative ensures they can travel without financial burden," said the CM.

Empowering Women Through Self-Help Groups (SHGs)

Reddy criticised the previous administration for neglecting women's self-help groups (SHGs) and vowed to restore their financial strength. His government has taken several measures to support SHGs, including:

  • Awarding uniform stitching contracts for government schools to SHG women
  • Entrusting SHGs with the management of government schools
  • Supporting SHGs in purchasing and operating TSRTC buses on hire

"These efforts not only provide employment but also strengthen women's financial independence," he said.

With these initiatives, Telangana is paving the way for a more inclusive and empowered society, ensuring that women play an active role in the state's economic and social development.
