DRDO Regional Director stabbed by juvenile in Hyderabad

with a knife in Hyderabad.

R K Satpathy, the regional Director of the DRDO went out with his family for shopping when the incident took place near Mecca Masjid area.

The senior DRDO official was stabbed allegedly by a juvenile "pickpocket" while the boy was being chased by a group of people in the crowded Charminar area.

Regional Director of a Koraput-based DRDO unit R K Satpathy was immediately rushed to a government hospital and his condition was stated to be out of danger, police said.

The DRDO said the incident has nothing to do with "DRDO affairs".

"Satpathy, who came for shopping in the Charminar area, was attacked by a knife by the juvenile who was fleeing from a group of persons who wer beating him," ACP (Charminar Division) D Venkat Narsaiah told PTI.

"The teenager, a pickpocket and who seems to be addicted to sniffing whitener, was chased and caught by a group of persons near Charminar area and was being beaten up. The DRDO official was standing near and the boy while fleeing attacked him," the ACP said based on preliminary investigation.

The boy managed to escape and efforts were on to nab him, police said.

"The DRDO official was immediately rushed to a government hospital and his condition was out of danger," the senior police official said.

The Regional Director of Regional Centre for Military Airworthiness was on a visit here, said Ravi Kumar Gupta, Director, Directorate of Public Interface, DRDO. The incident has nothing to do with "DRDO affairs," he said. Satpathy was rushed to a hospital.

"He is out of danger," Gupta said.
