BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath, Who Ex-Cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, Dies
BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath, aged 63, died on Sunday following a heart attack. According to reports, BRS leader had been receiving medical care at AIG Hospitals since June 5. He came under spotlight after defeating Congress candidate and former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin in 2023.
Maganti Gopinath, a three-time MLA from Jubilee Hills and senior leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), died early Sunday at a private hospital in Hyderabad after suffering a heart attack. He was admitted to AIG Hospitals in Gachibowli on June 5 following a severe cardiac arrest. The hospital pronounced him dead at 5:45 am. Additionally, he was reportedly receiving treatment for kidney-related issues.

Political Journey and Achievements
Born on June 2, 1963, in Hyderguda, Gopinath pursued his education at Osmania University, earning a BA degree. He embarked on his political journey with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), where he served as the Telugu Yuvatha president from 1985 to 1992. During this time, he also held administrative roles such as director at HUDA.
In 2014, Gopinath was elected as an MLA from Jubilee Hills on a TDP ticket. By 2016, he transitioned to the BRS (formerly TRS) along with several other TDP leaders. He secured re-election in both 2018 and 2023, with his most recent win being against former India cricketer and Congress candidate Mohammad Azharuddin.
Condolences and Tributes
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Union Minister and BJP state president G Kishan Reddy, along with various leaders from different parties expressed their condolences. BRS Working President K T Rama Rao conveyed deep sorrow over Gopinath's untimely demise. Reflecting on his contributions to Jubilee Hills' development as a three-time MLA, KTR extended heartfelt sympathies to Gopinath's family.
Gopinath is survived by his wife Sunitha, one son, and two daughters.
