Karimnagar, Aug 1: Sushma Swaraj's Tweet about 10,000 immigrants in Saudi Arabia languishing in hunger in Saudi Arabia camps has created a shock wave in India, especially Karimnagar and Nizamabad districts of Telangana.

Both the districts have considerable number of international migrants. In fact, about 10 percent of the total population of the district is believed to have relatives in UAE, Muscat, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Qatar.

The migrants are said to be suffering in these countries, most of them behind bars for violating the rules of emigration and not carrying authentic documents. This is due to the fake visas that have been issued to them from certain agencies in order to extort money.

Both the decline in crude oil prices and slump in the construction sector have hit the livelihood of the immigrant population here, especially the labour class. As a result of this, close to 1,000 youths belonging to north Telangana are stranded abroad as their employers closed down operations.
