Who is Dr. Kumar Vishwas?

Kumar Vishwas
New Delhi, Dec 13:There are two things that are taking viral rounds of the Internet these days, one is AAP defeating the all-time winner Sheila Dikshit and the second is Kumar Vishwas's 'hasya kavita' targeted at the opposition and the state corruption.

A poet to the core, Kumar Vishwas's strong point lies in his mass appeal, probably why the AAP has decided to field him against Rahul Gandhi from Amethi in the coming Lok Sabha elections.

Vishwas shot up to fame, not just for his poems and satirical poetry, but also as a close aide to the party leader Arvind Kejriwal. But who is he?

Academics

He is a Hindi poet and a professor of Hindi Literature from Pilkhuwa, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. He has also worked in Rajasthan in 1994 and taught Hindi Literature to the students of Lala Lajpat Rai college for 16 years.

He is said to have done his MA and PhD from Uttar Pradesh. Dr Vishwas is also known for his scrips and lyrics in Indian Film Industry. He is also the sole performing poet of a language, whose poems (in his own voice) are used as telecom caller-back tunes.

Role in politics

New to the field, he has developed a mass appeal with his poetry and hence played a key role in galvanizing the youth who formed the core support of the party in Delhi. Handling the cyber wing of the party, he spearheaded the campaigns and the yatras to promote the party's agenda.

Vishwas met Arvind Kejriwal through Manish Sisodia who is the latter's childhood friend. The trio grew close during the Anna Hazare protest for Lokpal Bill. Gradually, he turned out to be a strategist, a resource that Kejriwal could bank upon for his victory.
