Gandhinagar, July 28: They are visually-challenged, but they do imagine. And it is their imagination that takes wings in the beautifully and intricately designed rakhis made by a group of visually-challenged girls at Andh Kanya Prakash Gruh in Ahmedabad, Gujarat every year.

This year, as the festival of Raksha Bandhan is almost a month away, the girls from the school are busy making rakhis. The students of Andh Kanya Prakash Gruh have been making rakhis for the last 20 years.

And over the years, the popularity of the handmade rakhis--the sacred threads that sisters tie in the hands of their brothers during Raksha Bandhan--is growing by leaps and bounds.

A student of the school, which provides education and boarding facilities to at least 200 visually-challenged girls, told news agency ANI that "although we can't see, we try to make sure thatour rakhis look beautiful and people like them. Our activity gives us happiness."

"Gujarat: Visually challenged women at Andh Kanya Prakash Gruh in Ahmedabad, who have been making rakhis on Raksha Bandhan every year for the last 20 years, say, 'Although we can't see,we try to make sure thatour rakhis look beautiful&people like them. Our activity gives us happiness.'," tweeted ANI.

The coordinator of the school added, "We started making rakhis 20 years ago and from the last two years due to social media, the message has spread a lot. People say that our products are more reasonably priced compared to others in the market. The demand for rakhis has increased this year."

This year, Raksha Bandhan is scheduled on August 26 and before that make sure to buy rakhis made by the students of Andh Kanya Prakash Gruh in Ahmedabad to encourage them to carry forward their creative work.
