Piyush Goyal Achieves Annual Target of Electrifying 7000 Villages

With lot of pride Minister of State with Independent Charge for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy, Piyush Goyal announced that his ministry has been able to achieve the annual target of electrifying 7,000 villages in India a week ahead of the deadline.

7008 villages have been electrified as on 23rd of March 2016. With this an annual target of electrifying 7000 villages during this fiscal year under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY) has been achieved a week before close of financial year.

In his second tweet, Mr. Goyal further said that this dramatic turnaround in village electrification programme has taken place under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Background:

In view of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi's address to nation, on Independence Day, Government of India it was decided to electrify remaining 18,452 un-electrified villages within 1000 days i.e. by 01st May, 2018.

The project has been taken on mission mode and strategy for electrification consists of squeezing the implementation schedule to 12 months and also dividing village electrification process in 12 Stage milestones with defined timelines for monitoring.
