Tech-savy PM Narendra Modi debuts on Instagram, shares his first picture

Bengaluru, Nov 12: Already being crowned the most mentioned political leader on social media in 2013, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, Nov 12 surprised his fans by debuting on Instagram.

Modi, who is currently on a two-day trip to Myanmar for the ASEAN Summit shared a picture of the venue and tweeted:
Within a matter of hours after his first picture went on Instagram, Modi had over 35000 followers. Many users congratulated him on his debut and some even praised him for being so interactive with his supporters.
The photo taken by the Modi was of the giant billboard of the 25th ASEAN Summit and of the golden bordered red carpet leading upto it at the Myanmar International Convention Centre.
Modi fourth most followed political leader
It is a well known fact that Narendra Modi is very active on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. Modi is known to constantly update his accounts with latest updates and is also in among the five most followed political leaders on social networking sites.
He has many times welcomed suggestions and feedback from the general public through such platforms.
It is said that social media played a key role in BJP and Modi's victory in the Lok Sabha elections this year. He has also many times laid emphasis on the importance of technology and social media in order to reach out to a maximum number of people and even encouraged his ministers to be more tech savy.
What does being on social media mean to Modi
By debuting on Instagram, Modi has proved that he too is tech-savy and won't shy from technology when it comes to connecting with people. He is often seen taking selfies with celebrities and has himself taken selfies on many occassions, which has earned him praises from even the youth.
When people see a leader who is so interactive and well connected, it makes them to sit up and take notice as well as interact and share their thoughts with the leaders.

Like Modi, many other political leaders are known to be active on Twitter and Facebook. US President Barack Obama is the most followed political leader on social networking sites. Obama is often seen sharing seflies and pictures on his account.
Other leaders who regulary update their Twitter and Facebook accounts are Indonesian President SB Yudhoyono, Venezuela's President Nicholas Maduro, President of Mexico, President of Colombia, Brazil's President Dilma Rouseff among others.
