Most wanted Naxal leader Sabyasachi Panda arrested; Know more about him

In a major breakthrough, the Odisha police has arrested top Naxal leaders including most wanted Sabyasachi Panda from Ganjam district of the State.

According to the police, Panda was nabbed during a police raid at a hideout following intelligence inputs. Panda, facing over 30 charges of murder including that of a VHP leader and his four disciples in 2008, was on the run for over a decade.

His gross misdeeds of mass scale human killings and conspiring against the nation, tagged him as a 'Most Wanted criminal'. Panda is a deadly criminal who operate on the sinister garb of being an ultra-left radical ostensibly to fight for the poor.

Some facts about Panda:

Sabyasachi Panda, was known as Che Guevara of Odisha.

He is a native of Mayurjhalia village in Nayagarh district.

Panda is a mathematics graduate from Puri's Samant Chandra Shekhar Government College.

He carries a reward of Rs 20 lakh on his arrest and is wanted to stand trial in several cases.

AAP had offered membership to Panda in recently concluded Lok Sabha polls

Panda was expelled from CPI(M) in 2012 after he questioned party's ideology.

He formed a new outfit called Odisha Maobadi Party (OMP). The aim behind the creation of the new party was to bring 'like-minded revolutionaries' on a single platform.

He is one of the prime accused in the August 2008 killing of VHP leader Laxmananda Saraswati in Kandhamal that had triggered communal violence in the region. Same year, Panda was the mastermind behind the Nayagarh police armoury loot and killing of several policemen.

In March 2012, he was also involved in the abduction of two Italian tourists Paulo Bosusco and tourist Claudio Colangelo.

Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP had offered membership to dreaded Panda in recently concluded Lok Sabha poll.
