Srikantadatta Wodeyar
Mysore, Dec 13: Karnataka still mourns Wodeyar's death, but with each passing day, the interest to know him grows among the outsiders. For those who are aware of the history of the Wodiyar dynasty, he was a scion-multifaceted and a generous MLA. But for those who have interest in history, he and his dynasty is still a mystery.

So, here is an attempt to know him.

Education

He studied in the exclusive private royal school at the Mysore Palace, from where he completed his Secondary School education in the year 1967. In 1968, he joined the Maharaja College in Mysore to pursue a 1-year pre-university course and studied BA, majoring in English and Politics Science, between 1969-1972. He also studied Sociology and Kannada (taught by scholar Prof K. Venkataramappa).

Following this, he pursued MA in Political Science in Manasa Gangotri, University of Mysore between 1972-1974. A scholar, who was awarded Gold Medal in Political Science, he also had interest in Vedas and Carnatic classical music.

Interests

He was an avid cricket player throughout his college life. He is said to have a collection of Bats, signed by International Test Cricket Players. The captain of his university cricket team, he later led the Karnataka State Cricket Association as President. He was also known as a fashion designer and an ardent promoter of Mysore Silk Sarees under his Royal Silk of Mysore brand name.
