Know your leader profile: Rajnath Singh- BJP

Family history: Rajnath Singh was born in a Rajput family of farmers. He pursued his Masters degree in Physics from Gorakhpur University and became a Physics lecturer at KB Post-Graduate College in Mirzapur.
Singh has been associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since 1964, when he was just 13-year old.
Singh is married to Savitri Singh and has two sons and one daughter.
Political career:
1969 to 1971- Organisational secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Gorakhpur division.
1972- RSS General Secretary in Mirzapur
1974- Secretary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh, Mirzapur
In 1975, Rajnath Singh was appointed as the district president of the Jana Sangh, at the young age of 24.
1977- Elected as Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Mirzapur constituency.
1983- State Secretary of UP BJP
1984- State President of BJP's Youth Wing (BJYM)
1986- Appointed national general secretary of BJYM
1988- elevated as the National President of BJYM
1991- Became Education minister in the first BJP government in Uttar Pradesh and introduced "anti-copying act, 1992". Made copying a "non-bailable offence".
1994- Became Member of Rajya Sabha
1997: Became President in Uttar Pradesh unit of BJP
1999- Became Union Surface Transport Minister
28 October 2000 - 8 March 2002- Served Uttar Pradesh as the chief minister of the state.
2002- Became National General Secretary of BJP
2003- Became Union Minister of Agriculture and Food Processing.
2004- Appointed as National General Secretary of BJP
2005 to 2009- Became the BJP National President
2009- Elected as MP from Ghaziabad in May
2013: On January 23, 2013, Rajnath Singh was appointed as the BJP's National President for the second time, succeeding Nitin Gadkari.
He is a staunch supporter of Hindi language and criticises usage of English language. Not many people know that Rajnath Singh has also written a book- "Unemployment- its Reasons and Remedies".
Singh's assets are more than Rs one crore.
