Karnataka Elections: Varuna Assembly Constituency
Varuna constituency is located in Mysore district. The road from Mysore to Tirumakudal Narsipur forks at Varuna junction. The areas falling under this constituency are Varuna Circle, few areas of Nanjangud Taluk, Chikkaiahna-Chatra and Biligere Circles. Doddakowlande Circle, Varahalli, Kakkarahatti, Banooru, Hadya, Karepura, Karya, Chunchanahalli, Konanoor, Konanapura, Paduvalamarahalli, Ramasettipura, Hanumanapura, Paduvala Agrahara, Dasanooru, Doddahomma, Chikkahomma and Thoravalli villages. Few areas of Tirumakudal Narsipur Taluk and Kasaba Circle also comes under Varuna constituency.
Sutturu Mutt, a famous spiritual center of Lingayath community is in Varuna. The mutt runs more than 300 schools in India and abroad. Suttur Mutt has a history of 1,000 years. Suttur Mutt established Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeswara Mahavidyapeetha (popularly called as JSS Mahavidyapeetha) in 1954.
The people of Varuna are mostly engaged in agricultural work.
State's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah from Congress is representing this constituency. He defeated Kapu Siddalingaswamy of KJP. In 2008 assembly elections, Siddaramaih contested from this constituency for the first time and won against L. Revannasiddaiah of BJP comfortably.
