Karnataka elections: Pavagada Assembly constituency
Despite its proximity to Chitradurga, Pavagada falls under the Tumakuru district of Karnataka. The town is famous for its fort located on the hill, Kote Anjaneya temple at the foothills and also the temple of Sri Shani Mahatma.
Uttara Pinakini river flows in this region. The Karnataka government is coming up with Asia largest Solar park in Pavagada on a 10,000 acre land with the capacity to generate 2000 megawatt solar electricity. Pavagada has an average elevation of 646 metres.
The rain-fed region is pushed to a drought situation everytime the monsoon fails in the state. Telugu is also spoken in Pavagada while Kannada is the official language. Pavagada is well connected too other places in India. It has both KSRTC and APSRTC Buses which connect to other places of Karnataka and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
A railway station is being built in Pavagada under the project of Rayadurga-Tumkur Railway Line. This railway will connect Pavagada to Bengaluru to Bellary via Tumkur and Rayadurga.
K. M Thimmarayappa from the JD(S) is the current MLA from the locality, he defeated H.V Venkatesh of Congress.
