Karnataka elections: KR Pura Vidhan Sabha Seat

Krishnarajapuram also known as K.R. Puram, is a suburb in Bengaluru city. Krishnarajapura is located at the junction of Old Madras Road and Outer Ring Road. The Mahabaleshwara and Rama temple complex, situated adjacent to the lake, is a historic temple. The cable bridge on the junction of Old Madras Road and Outer Ring Road has been declared the most outstanding national bridge by the Indian Institution of Bridge Engineers.

People say Mysuru Maharaja Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar used to visit the city frequently and also check on the progress of the area. The Krishnarajapuram Market has a history of 150 years.

It is a new Assembly constituency in the Greater Bangalore region and it has the largest number of voters among the 21 constituencies. It comes under Bangalore North Lok Sabha. Carved out from the erstwhile Varthur Assembly constituency (which no longer exists) and a few parts of Hoskote Assembly constituency, it has predominantly urban characteristics. The area has its own set of problems. Traffic congestion, sewage disposal issues, lack of storm-water drains and bad roads are common complaints.

The current MLA is B.A. Basavaraj from Congress and he defeated N S Nandiesha Reddy of BJP.
