Karnataka Elections: Holenarasipur Assembly Constituency
Holenarasipura is a town and taluk in Hassan district. The town is situated on the banks of the Hemavati, one of the many tributaries of the Kaveri. It is 32 km from Hassan, 90 km from Mysore and 175 km from Bangalore.
The name of the town signifies the presiding deity Narasimha, the Fourth incarnation of Vishnu dwelling on the banks of the river (hole). Not only is the town a taluk headquarters, but it is also an important central point for the surrounding agriculture industry.
The
main
attraction
in
Holenarsipura
is
an
ancient
temple
dedicated
to
Lord
Narasimha
and
river
Hemavathy.
The
temple
was
first
built
by
Narasimha
Nayaka
in
1568
and
later
was
extended
by
the
Mysore
Wodeyars.
Holenaraispura
is
also
known
as
Trikutachalakshetra
as
there
are
three
Sanctum
sanctorums
in
the
temple.
Idols
of
Lakshmi
Narasimha,
Venugopala,
and
Chennakeshava
are
installed
in
each
of
the
garba
grihas.
The JDS has been winning Holenarasipur Assembly seat since 2004. The Congress party last won from Holenarsipura in 1999. From 1962 to 1989, Holenarsipura seat was held by the former prime minister of India H D Deve Gowda who won six consecutive terms from this constituency.
H.D Revanna of JDS is the current MLA and he defeated S.G. Anupama of Congress.
