Arsikere is a town and taluk in the Hassan district. Arsikere is situated about 44 kilometres from district headquarters Hassan and 166 kilometres from state capital Bengaluru.

This area is known for its coconut production and the Malekallu Tirupathi hill. Arsikere is the taluka headquarters, a major railway junction on the South Western Railway which links Mangalore and Mysore to North Karnataka and a central place for tourists who visit nearby places that do not have rail access, such as Belur, Halebidu, and Shravanabelagola.

Arsikere Assembly Constituency

The name Arasikere originates from one of the princesses of the Hoysala Dynasty, who built a lake (kere) near the town. Arasi means queen.

Therefore, it is 'Arasiya+kere' which means ""queen's pond"". Arasikere was also called Udbhava Sarvajna Vijaya and Ballalapura at various times.

Some on the notable places in and around Arsikere are The Kalameshwara Temple, Sahasrakuta Jinalaya, Malekal Tirupathi Hill, Sainatha and Ganapathi temples, Jenukallu Siddeshwara Swamy hill, Sri Siddarameshwara Temple, Sri Siddarameshwara Gadduge and Sri devamma devi devalaya.

The Nagapuri fortress, built on the Hirekal hill, is eleven kilometres north of Arasikere and is said to have been constructed by Hyder Ali.

KM Shivalinge Gowda of JDS is the current MLA and he defeated B. Shivaramu of Congress by 29, 631 votes.
