Karnataka Elections: Arkalgud Assembly Constituency

Arkalgud is a panchayat town and is one among the eight taluks of Hassan district. Arkalgud is situated 30 km from district headquarters Hassan, 181 km from Mangaluru and 195 km from Bengaluru.

The river Hemavati forms the entire northern boundary of the Taluk; river Kaveri runs through a portion of the south. It is well connected by road to many towns and cities of Karnataka. Holenarasipura is the nearest railway station to Arakalgud taluk.

It is said that Gautama rishi performed penance to Surya (Sun God) and installed the idol of Arkeshwara, the presiding deity of the local Arkeshwara temple.

Manju A from Congress is the current MLA and he defeated AT Ramaswamy of JDS by 8,794 votes. The Congress has been winning from here since 2008, while the JD (S) won Arkalgud seat in 2004. The BJP last won from here in 1999.
