Karnataka Assembly Elections: Vijay Nagar Seat

Vijayanagar derives its name from the Vijayanagara empire that flourished in South India during 15th and 16th centuries. It is bound by Mysore Road and Magadi Road, with Chord Road cutting through. It is the northmost area of South Bangalore.

Vijayanagar used to be the entrance to the city. Even now, the arch saying 'Vijayanagarada Hebbagilu' (Vijayanagar Main Entrance) stands as a remnant of yesteryear.

The once spacious and serene Vijayanagar has grown into a concrete jungle, bustling with activity. The layout has been suffering from space crunch. The area is in close proximity to SIT College of Engineering, PES Institute of Technology, M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, the Bangalore University and the National Law School of India University.

Vijayanagar houses a large public library, which is one of the largest in Karnataka. It also houses India's largest Community library chain like JustBooks at Chandra Layout. Vijayanagar also boasts of a unique Karnataka Haridasa Scientific Research Centre housed in the spacious Vijaya Ranga building.

Like other areas, Vijayanagar constituency too has a few black spots like Bapujinagar, Deepanjalinagar, Timberyard Layout, New Guddadahalli, Byatarayanapura which gets marooned during every monsoon even after a short spell of rain.

The current MLA is M.Krishnappa of Congress, won against V.Somanna of BJP.
