Karnataka Assembly Elections: Shanti Nagar Seat
Shantinagar is one of the assembly constituencies in Bengaluru urban which is in the heart of the city. Thickly populated, this area is near to Langford Town , Bheemanna Garden , KSRTC Colony, Bheemanna Garden, :Lal bagh and Richmond Town. The iconic Lal Bagh and Wilson Garden Cremotorium falls under this constituency.
The Shantinagar Bus Station is one of the important transit point in the city. All KSRTC, TNTC and SETC buses bound towards Tamil Nadu and KSRTC and APSRTC buses towards Andhra Pradesh now depart from this bus station instead of Kempegowda Bus Station owing to land acquired for Bengaluru Metro Rail Construction at Kempegowda Bus Station.
The bus station is located on Kengal Hanumantaiah Road, next to the central offices of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation. The Depot 1 of BMTC was remodelled as a bus station with four bays.
This place is well connected to Majestic, Shivajinagar, Koramangala, Hosur Road, Sarjapur Road, Bannerghatta Road, Jayanagar, Banashankari, Carmelaram Railway station and Mysuru Road. The area also houses several temples, churches and mosques. It also has a big hockey stadium to its credit. This constituency perennially suffers from poor drainage issues and traffic jams.
NA Haris from Congress is the sitting MLA and he won the election against Vasudev Murthy of JDS.
