Jethmalani failed in DA case: Why the star lawyer proving to be a jinx for his clients

The verdict in disproportionate assets case against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has not only put question mark on AIADMK chief's career but also raised finger on the abilities of star lawyer Ram Jethmalani.

The 90-year-old Jethmalani has once again failed in his task as the Special Court which not only held his client, Jayalalithaa, guilty but also denied her bail.

The star lawyer who is known for his legal acumenship has been unsuccessful in lower courts in four high-profile cases.

Jethmalani failed in Kanimozhi case

The senior lawyer had earlier failed in taking out DMK supremo's daughter Kanimozhi, accused in 2G case, out of jail. In 2011, the special CBI court dismissed Kanimozhi's bail plea four times. This despite the fact that Jethmalani raised a number of arguments that the accused had a duty to her child and her exemplary role as a daughter.

Kanimozhi got a bail from the Delhi High Court when another lawyer Altaf Ahmed represented her.

Jagan Mohan Reddy too didn't get bail

In 2012, Jethmalani represented YSR Congress chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's in a disproportionate assets case but failed to get him out of jail. The Andhra High Court rejected Reddy's bail plea despite strong arguments made by Jethmalani.

Jethmalani failed in Sankaracharya Saraswati case

Jethmalani too failed in Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati case when the Madras High Court rejected the bail plea of his client. Saraswati was accused of murdering an employee at Kancheepuram temple in 2004.

In January 2005, the Supreme Court granted Sankaracharya bail, that time he was represented by another advocate Fali S Nariman.

Known for taking up controversial cases, an unfazed Jethmalani always adheres to his conscience. "If taking up an unpopular cause will result unpopularity, so be it," the senior lawyer was quoted as saying in media reports.
