Incessant rains brought the much-awaited relief to Delhiites and the people residing in the national capital region on Sunday from the scorching spell. The afternoon shower brought down the temperature to 27 degree celsius from 40.2 degree celsius.
Light shower was also experienced in the national capital region of Noida and Gurgaon. The met department has predicted more rains in the coming week as monsoon makes revival in north-India.
Torrential rains for over two hours brought traffic to a hault in the national capital due to water-logging in several parts of the city.
By 5.30pm, Safdarjung had recorded 25.6mm rain and the temperature had dropped to 27 degrees celsius.
"The rain was the impact of an active system that formed over the Bay of Bengal and has now started moving inland. This is among the first active systems to have moved westwards this monsoon and is expected to bring rain to parts of central India and the plains of northwest India," said a Met official.
