History repeats itself: Class 5 student Uthara wins the same award her father won 21 years ago

She is just 10-years-old, but Uthara Unnikrishnan has done no another of her age can even dream of. She is now the numero uno playback singer of the country, by grabbing the best female playback singer award in the 62nd National Film Awards'function.

She was awarded for the super hit song Azhage, composed by GV Prakash, in the movie Saivam.

The Class V student, is the daughter of renowned Carnatic and playback singer P Unnikrishnan.

Like father, like daughter, the young singer has won the same award her father won 21 years ago.

History has repeated itself; Unnikrishnan had won the national award for his debut film songs "Ennavale Adi Ennavale" and "Uyirum Neeye" composed by AR Rahman in 1994, and Uthara doing the same in her debut film.

Reacting to his daughter's rise in film industry, Unni Krishan said, the credit goes to music director Prakash, who made Uthara to sing that song. She learnt the song in a few days and sang it. They got that innocence which can be captured only in the first take, and retained it."

When asked about her feeling after winning the award and her ambition, she said,"I want to become a singer like my dad."

Uthara trains under famous singer Sudha Raja, and like reading books, watching TV, playing computer games and outdoor games.
