Gujarat elections: Vijaybhai Rupani - BJP candidate from Rajkot constituency
Vijay Ramniklal Rupani is the BJP candidate from Rajkot West constituency. He was born on 2 August 1956 and is the incumbent Chief Minister of Gujarat since 7 August 2016. He is a member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. He studied Bachelor of Arts from Dharmendrasinhji Arts College and also has an LL.B from Saurashtra University. Vijay Rupani is a partner in a trading firm Rasiklal & Sons, founded by his father. He had worked as a stock broker. Vijay Rupani started his career as a student activist associated with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). He joined Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and subsequently joined Jan Sangh in 1971 has been associated with Bharatiya Janta Party since its establishment.

Rupani's assets include movable and immovable properties in his wife's name too. In 2014 (when he contested a by-election), he had declared assets of Rs 7.21 crore. The chief minister owns movable assets including cash and jewellery worth Rs 3.45 crore while the value of movable assets owned by his wife, Anjaliben, is Rs 1.97 crore. While Rupani owns jewellery worth Rs 3.83 lakh (132 grams), his wife owns jewellery worth Rs 14.11 lakh (486 grams), as per the affidavit. He also owns an Innova car while his wife owns a Maruti WagaonR.
