Gujarat elections: Congress candidate from Surat East constituency- Nitin Bharucha
He has no criminal cases against him. He is well-known businessman and builder in his hometown Surat.
Nitin Bharucha has been named the Congress candidate from Surat east constituency. Pirzada Kadir Kayamudin was the Congress candidate in 2012 assembly elections. There was a strong demand from the community to give Congress party ticket to a Muslim from Surat East assembly seat. The party, however, turned down this risk and fielded Nitin Bharucha.

Ranjitbhai Mangubhai Gilitwala of BJP has won the seat for two consecutive terms. Nitin Bharucha was a Councillor in the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC). No criminal cases have been registered against him. Nitin Bharucha's name was announced in the the first list of candidates.
