Ashok Jirawala has been named the Congress candidate from Kamrej constituency
Ashok Jirawala has been named the Congress candidate from Kamrej constituency. In 2012, Congress had earlier fielded Nilesh Kumbani from the Kamrej seat. This year, the party conceded the demand of Hardik Patel-led Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) to field Ashok Jirawala. Bhagirathbhai Manubhai Pithavdiwala was Congress candidate in last assembly elections.
Ashok Jirawala is a textile trader by profession. Since 2002, Congress hasn't registered a single victory in Kamrej. The last election Congress won was in 2012. BJP has strong hold on this seat.
Kamrej was reserved for ST category from 1975 to 2007. In 2012, declared as General category constituency.
