In 2012 Gujarat Assembly elections, Vijaybhai Patel had lost to Congress party’s Mangalbhai Gangajibhai Gavit by 2,422 votes.
The Congress party's candidate from the Dangs Assembly Constituency for the Gujarat Assembly elections 2017 is Mangalbhai G. Gavit. This seat is reserved for a member of scheduled tribes. The district, according to the planning commission, is one of the most economically distressed districts out of 640 districts in India.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Dangs Assembly constituency for the Gujarat Assembly elections 2017 is Vijaybhai Patel. Dangs Assembly seat is reserved for Schedule Tribe candidates. In 2012 Gujarat Assembly elections, Vijaybhai Patel had lost to Congress party's Mangalbhai Gangajibhai Gavit by 2,422 votes. Vijaybhai had, however, won the assembly elections in 2017 by defeating Madhubhai Jalyabhai Bhoye by 7,883 votes.
