Flashback 2014: Celebrities who got into controversies and made headlines


Celebrities and people from glamour world are always in news. From film releases to the upcoming sports, they are tracked almost all the time.

Let's have a look at the celebrities who were in news for wrong reasons this year.

1) Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone was furious after a leading media house zoomed into her cleavage and sensationalised it as: "OMG! Deepika Padukone's cleavage show".

This lead to a series of responses from media houses, Bollywood town and common people, calling it objectification of women at a time when they are fighting against it. The 'cleavage news' controversy has been a trending topic since quite long.

2) Aamir Khan

Ahead of the release of the much awaited film PK, actor Aamir Khan nearly ran into trouble with his controversial 'nude' poster for the promos. It grabbed eyeballs for the unconventional attempt by the actor. In the poster Aamir was seen in the buff standing on railway tracks with only a radio set covering his modesty.

A suit was filed by activist Hemant Patil, demanding a permanent injunction from the court from releasing the film all over India with a ban on publicity and advertisement of the nude picture.

There was another twist in the story when some came forward and said the poster was copied.

3) Sania Mirza

As soon as the Telangana government announced Indian tennis player Sania Mirza as its brand ambassador, reactions flew in from across the country stating the step to be unacceptable as she was now "Pakistan's Daughter-in-law".

Telangana BJP leader K Laxman went against the decision to appoint Sania as brand ambassador of the newly carved-out state, questioning her credentials for the honour. He termed Sania unworthy as Telangana ambassador because she had never participated in agitation for a separate state of Telangana

To this, Sania had said that she is married to a Pakistani but she's an Indian and will remain an Indian till the end of her life.

4) Shweta Basu

Shweta Basu, the actress who acted in films like Makdee and Iqbal has been caught in a high profile prostitution racket at Banjara Hills in Hyderabad.

In her confession, Shweta said,"I have made wrong choices in my career and I was out of money. I had to support my family and some other good causes. All the doors were closed and some people encouraged me to get into prostitution to earn money. I was helpless and with no option left to choose, I got involved in this act. I'm not the only one who faced this problem and there are several other heroines who have gone through this phase."

5) Ankit Tiwari

Ankit Tiwari

Popular playback singer Ankit Tiwari from Aashiqui fame was arrested by the Versova Police from his residence in Andheri on charges of rape filed by a 28-year-old woman.

As per the complaint, Ankit was reportedly involved in a relationship with the victim for the past two and-a-half years and allegedly raped her making false promise of marriage. The victim, in her complaint, has claimed that she told Ankit about her past when he proposed. He had apparently promised her he was ready to accept her daughter.
