BBMP polls: Who will be Bengaluru's Mayor?

The BBMP elections are done and the BJP will run the show in Bengaluru once again. The question however is who will be Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

There is lobbying on for the two posts and in all likelihood the final call would be taken soon with former Deputy Chief Minister, R Ashoka playing a big part in it.

The Mayor's post falls under the general category while the post of deputy Mayor is reserved for a woman. The BJP will take a call on the matter as to who to project as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Will it be a combination of an old timer and a first timer?

Who will be Mayor?

It is expected that the BJP will give the post of Mayor to a seasoned candidate. The voter of Bengaluru has always been kind on the party be it in the assembly or parliamentary elections. Moreover the BJP will be looking to make the best out of this opportunity.

There are several first timers who have won the BBMP elections. However the BJP is looking at an experienced candidate to don the mantle of Mayor.

Some of the names that are doing the rounds are Nagaraju N, Umesh Shetty, Padmanabha Reddy, and L Srinivas a former Deputy Mayor.

A lot would depend on R Ashoka as he is the one who played a very crucial role in ensuring that the BJP performed well in the elections.

An illustration in a newspaper comparing him to Bahubali also tells the picture of the role he played in the elections. If Ashoka has his way, in all likelihood, he may choose L Srinivas to the post of Mayor.

Srinivas has the experience as he has been a Deputy Mayor. Moreover he is the corporator from the Kumaraswamy layout which falls under the Padmanabha constituency of which Ashoka is the MLA.

However the BJP is yet to take any decision on the matter. Party sources say that both the posts would be chosen carefully. We are looking for efficiency and experience, the party source informed.
