Arunima Sinha, the first female amputee to climb Mount Everest
Arunima Sinha who was born in 1988 from Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh is the first Indian amputee to climb Mount Everest. She is also the first female amputee to climb the Everest.

She was a national level volleyball player before the horrible accident which left her an amputee. Sinha was pushed from a running train by some robbers in 2011 while she was resisting them.
Sinha's aim was to climb all the continents' highest peaks and put the national flag of India. She has already completed six of them:
1. Everest in Asia
2. Kilimanjaro in Africa
3. Elbrus in Europe
4. Kosciuszko in Australia
5. Aconcagua in Argentina
6. Carstensz Pyramid (Puncak Jaya) in Indonesia
Tragedy:
In 2011, the twenty four year old Arunima Sinha was thrown off a moving train by some robbers for refusing to hand over the gold chain she was wearing which was the only gift from her mother. As a result, one of her legs had to be amputated below the knee when a train went over it.

Sinha was just three years, when her father passed away who was an engineer in the army. Sinha's mother is a supervisor with the health department. After the accident, Sinha didn't lose her hope. She never wanted people to see her in sympathy and feel pity because of her prosthetic leg. Sinha thought the only option to prove herself was to scale the highest point in the world: Mount Everest.
Sinha completed a basic course from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering followed by 18 months of rigorous training. Sinha first climbed Island Peak (6150 metres) in 2012 as preparation for her ascent of Everest.
Awards:
Sinha has been featured as one of the 'People of the Year' in the 27th edition (2016) of Limca Book of Records. She was also been awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India in 2015. Sinha is Awarded Tenzing Norgay Highest Mountaineering Award in India.
