New Delhi, Jan 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday saluted the indomitable courage and valour of the army on the occasion of 67th Army Day and said he was proud of their determination.
While President Pranab Mukherjee greeted the soldiers, officers, ex-Servicemen and their families on the eve of the Army Day.

Here are the facts you need to know about the Army Day
- The Army Day is annually celebrated on January 15.
- The day is of great significance and is observed to commemorate the appointment of Lt Gen (later Field Marshal) K.M. Cariappa as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army in 1949.
- It is celebrated at every Army Command headquarters in the country and in the national capital.
- Army Day is celebrated to pay homage and salute to the courageous and brave Indian soldiers who have been sacrificed their lives for protecting the country.
- On Army Day every year, tributes are paid to those soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the country and the people living in it at the "Amar Jawan Jyoti" at India Gate in New Delhi on Army Day.
- Bravery awards including Unit credentials and Sena Medals are distributed on the occasion of Army Day.
