An agenda for Bangalore by Youth Connect

Bangalore, May 1: With young voters out to make a difference in India, the May 5 elections in Karnataka have become crucial to involve the youth in poll process.

A ‘Youth Connect' platform was created yesterday to facilitate the youth in Bangalore to connect with the political leaders and set an agenda in policy and programmes.

A group of youngsters participating in a political action internship organized the panel discussion between MLA candidates, youth icons and the city's youngsters.

Award winning film director-KM Chaitanya, Radio and TV personality Vasanthi Hariprakash and Olympian and Sports consultant Hakimuddin Habibulla were the youth icons, representing the youth, and discussed with the candidates for the Karnataka elections about the agenda for Bangalore.

NA Haris, MLA of Shantinagar and Hebbal candidate Rahman Shariff represented the political leadership and the candidates. The discussion, which saw active audience participation, was moderated by Rajeev Gowda of IIMB.

Vasanthi wanted to know the solutions from the politicians, especially on the garbage problem. " Garbage has become huge problem, we as citizens would be happy, if the political leaders look into this issue and create a concrete plan for better management."

For Hakimuddin it was about open space. "Sports is an elementary tool for socio economic development. Political leaders should be accessible, to bridge the aspirations of the youth," he said.

Haris said "once elected, the Congress Government will create a blueprint to manage the city, its infrastructure, and services on a way that improves the quality of life for all Bangaloreans."

Rahman Shariff promised to take the advice of experts to create sports facilities that are accessible to all.
