Two-women army: Mamata, Jaya shake Delhi power corridors
The UPA government in the Centre has got its hand dirty in every perceivable trouble possible, and with the added fact that the allies are giving the Centre sleepless nights on various issues is not going down well with the man in the helm, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Among the many who are mounting trouble for the PM, prominent among them are the two women CM's of Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, Jayalalithaa and Mamata Banerjee who is bulldozing the PM to make decisions that are putting the UPA in such trouble that cannot be fathomed.

Amma and Didi, as both Jayalalithaa and Mamata is referred to respectively have been successfully able to corner the Centre to concede to their tantrums. The new trend that the regional parties have been able to bargain for more power in the Centre after the recently concluded Assembly elections, has only helped the women reign more command in the power corridors of Delhi. [UPDATE: UPA stoops to Mamata, Jaya's demand, to meet CMs on NCTC]
When Jaya showed her might to the UPA government during the NCTC row and during her flip-flopping stance in the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant row, Mamata showed her devil-may-care-attitude when she pulled down a Union Cabinet Minister, Dinesh Trivedi for failing to speak the language she wanted him to speak. Mamata also expressed her vocal disagreement in the NCTC issue and how she will take a walk from the UPA if the Trinamool Congress was humiliated.
The Prime Minister was also ready to put at stake the country's image and future in the international arena by voting against Sri Lanka in the United Nations Human Rights Council on Mar 22 that sought to impose sanctions against war-torn Sri Lanka on the war crimes perpetrated against innocent civilians during the final years of the Eelam war. Manmohan Singh stood his stand in spite of facing stiff criticism for succumbing to coalition compulsions, with everybody aware that it was the DMK's and AIADMK's iron will that compelled Singh to take this stand.
Th recent letter written by Jayalalithaa to the PM on the power crisis in the state and highlighting that Tamil Nadu requires the complete share of the power generated in the Kudankulam plant needs special mention because of the way she chose to write the letter and the language used. She wrote in the letter, "I hope that this request will be positively considered by you. May I also reiterate that we require and deserve this power?"
With both women CM's determined to flex their muscles and get across their point no matter what, they have seemingly joined forces against the Centre on the NCTC issue. Jayalalithaa has written a letter to the PM citing, "It is indeed unfortunate that without taking into consideration the views and sentiments of various state chief ministers, the constitution of NCTC is sought to be steamrolled into existence." Mamata had earlier made a similar stand on the same which she thought would curb the state's powers to curb terrorism.
Like somebody intelligent once said, "Women really do rule the world. They just haven't figured it out yet. When they do, and they will, we're all in big big trouble."
