Pakistan To Welcome Persecuted Indian Muslims Through Its Own CAA? Here's The Truth

Has the Pakistan government responded to the Indian government's decision to notify the rules of the CAA (Citizen Amendment Act)? A viral post doing rounds on social media claims that the Pakistan's new Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has criticised India over the act.

The post attributed to him claimed that Pakistan is ready to welcome perscuted Indian Muslims and will be given citizenship. The post reads: "To Counter Indian Govt's undemocractic and communal CAA, the government of Pakistan has decided to notify Pakistan's own CAA, in which Indian Muslims who feel persecuted in India will be given the citizenship of Pakistan."

Pakistan To Welcome Indian Muslims

Several people on social media shared the screenshot attributed to Shehbaaz Sharif, who took the oath as Prime Minister of Pakistan, taking over the country's reins for a second time since 2022, amidst staggering economic and security challenges.

On examining Sharif's handle, it was discovered that there was no such post on the said date (March 10). Also, there was no statement from any websites related to the Pakistan's government or in Pakistan media over his remarks on the CAA, which was passed in December 2019 and subsequently got the president's assent.

Hence, it is clear that it is a fake post.

On Monday, the rules for implementation of the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA) were notified, paving the way for granting of citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, officials said.

With the CAA rules being issued, the BJP government will now start granting Indian nationality to persecuted non-Muslim migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan who came to India till December 31, 2014. These include Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis and Christians.
