Landslide-Like Wall Collapse At Manyata Tech Park Due To Bengaluru Rains? Here’s The Truth Behind The Claim

A massive downpour on Tuesday left several parts in Bengaluru submerged, sparking widespread discussion about the city's chronic flooding issues. Social media was flooded with visuals showing the entrance and parking lot of popular Phoenix Mall waterlogged, making it nearly impossible for customers to access the shopping destination.

"Mall of Asia becomes Rainfall of Asia," quipped one social media user, sharing videos of waterlogging, while another commented, "Where shopping meets swimming."

Manyata Tech Park, a key business district, became the focus of online ridicule after it was humorously dubbed "Manyata Tech Falls" due to the waterlogging. The situation was brought under control by 6pm on Tuesday.

Some reports also suggested that the retaining wall collapsed in Ebisu Tech Park, which was developed by CapitaLand IT Park, an adjacent property to Manyata Tech Park.

The collapse was triggered by water inflows following the thunderstorms, shining a light on the vulnerability of the city's infrastructure to extreme weather events.

Heavy rains continue to disrupt daily life in Bengaluru, with Manyata Tech Park being one of the hardest-hit areas. Waterlogging has severely affected traffic across major parts of the city, including Bellandur, HSR Layout, Koramangala, and Whitefield. Amid the chaos, several videos surfaced claiming a wall collapse near Manyata Tech Park.

Located in Nagawara on Outer Ring Road, Manyata Tech Park experienced severe waterlogging, with vehicles struggling to navigate through the traffic, especially during peak hours. Some media reports suggested that a retaining wall near Gate No. 2 of the Manyata Embassy Business Park had collapsed, which is spread over 300 acres. The collapse allegedly occurred near a construction site where excavation work was in progress. Videos shared online showed debris falling into a crater as water surged through the damaged area.

Wall Collapse at Manyata Tech Park?

However, Embassy REIT quickly addressed the rumors, stating on social media, "Please note: Some videos/posts circulating about a wall collapse are not from Embassy REIT or Embassy Manyata properties."

In their statement, they emphasized that their top priority is ensuring smooth operations for occupiers, even amid challenges like the recent heavy rainfall in Bengaluru. Embassy REIT highlighted their investments in flood risk management and infrastructure improvements at Embassy Manyata. These include the development of a new culvert for flood mitigation, annual desilting efforts, raising the nallah embankment, and installing external stormwater sumps. They also deployed high-capacity dewatering systems, which cleared flooded roads within 2-4 hours.

Their internal stormwater drainage systems were activated to manage the excess water flow, effectively minimizing disruptions for businesses. Many companies within the 300-acre tech hub instructed employees to remain in their offices until the waterlogged roads inside and outside the park cleared.

Bengaluru Weather Forecast: More rain expected

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast two more days of rain, which is already considered an anomaly for Bengaluru's weather patterns. The city recorded 228% excess rainfall compared to its single-day average.

Bengaluru Urban District Commissioner G Jagadeesha announced an extension of school and college closures for October 16, with the downpour showing no signs of letting up. The Karnataka government has also advised IT, BT, and other private firms to adopt work-from-home arrangements until conditions improve.
