Fact Check: This puppet is not being strung to the tune of ‘Naatu Naatu’

"Naatu Naatu" from S S Rajamouli's RRR has gone become a global sensation.

The song and dance fest featuring, Jr. NTR and Ram Charan became even bigger after its music director, M M Keeravani won the Oscars recently.

Since the release of the movie, fans have been trying to recreate those magical dance steps and have been sharing videos which have gone viral.

A video has now gone viral in which a lady can be seen making a puppet dance with the background score bein, "Naatu Naatu."

While sharing the tweet and video, chairman of the Mahindra group, Anand Mahindra wrote, "Ok. One last tweet, I promise, about #NaatuNaatu But couldn't resist this one. Real evidence of it being a global phenomenon since it now has the whole world on its 'strings'."

This led to a flurry of scores of other sharing the same video with the claim that the puppet is being made to dance to "Naatu Naatu." Not just Twitter users, many other news outlets too shared the video of the lady making the puppets dance.

The video in question is six years old and was uploaded on YouTube, five years ago. The video was titled, "Amazing puppet dance by a talented lady.

The reverse search of the keyframes of the viral video which led us to the original clip showed that the same was uploaded on September 2 2017. The movie RRR was released in November 2021.

The original clip featured a cover of the popular Spanish number, "Despacitor." We also found a report on buzzfeed with the headline, "This Mouse Marionette Dancing to "Despacito" Will Take You To a Better Place.

A YouTube channel named "Aleksandar Stevanovic" had uploaded the same video of the lady with a puppet on August 21 2017. The video was uploaded under the title, "Despacito Dancing Puppet!! Amazing."

Going by these videos and reports, it is clear that the puppet is not dancing to the popular number, "Naatu Naatu." In fact the puppet dance was recorded with the tune of Spanish number 'Despacito.'
