Fact Check: Reporter Shot By Bullet At 'Delhi Chalo' Protest? Here's The Truth

As protesting farmers resumed their march towards Delhi on Wednesday after a night halt, there are a few video clips doing rounds that a reporter from a Hindi channel was shot by rioters during the protest.

"Aaj Tak reporter got shot by bullets fired by rioters," one user shared a clip and captioned it. Another social media user claimed that the incident occurred at Shambhu Border. He wrote, "Aaj tak reporter claims he got shot in a crossfire while reporting from #ShambhuBorder."

Reporter Injured At Delhi Chalo March?

Another user slammed the BJP for the shooting incident and said, "Aaj Tak reporter shot in live news BJP has burnt the entire country."

However, what created doubts in the people's minds is that neither the channel on air nor social media sites made these claims.

On doing research on Google, it was revealed that those clips were from the 2020 farmers' protest. A reporter from the channel identified as Satyendra Chauhan was hit by a rubber bullet at Shambhu on the Punjab-Haryana border.

So, miscreants are sharing the clips to mislead people and create confusion.

Meanwhile, security personnel fired some tear gas shells on farmers Wednesday morning at the Shambhu border near Ambala as the peasants gathered there to resume their 'Dilli Chalo' protest, the agitators told PTI.

The protesting farmers from Punjab plan to make a fresh attempt to break past the multiple layers of barricades at the border with Haryana in attempt to march to Delhi to press for various demands.

The report claimed that the Haryana security personnel lobbed a few tear gas shells at around 8 am on Wednesday when some farmers gathered near the barricades at the Shambhu border, the protesters claimed.

On the other hand, security remained tight on Wednesday with personnel deployed in huge numbers and barricades regulating movement in central Delhi and at border points with Haryana.
