Fact Check: Is Yogi Adityanath govt offering jobs to cannabis smokers in UP

A news has gone viral claiming that the Yogi Adityanath government is offering jobs worth Rs 80 lakh to those who smoke cannabis

Cannabis or marijuana smokers will be offered jobs worth Rs 80 lakhs in Uttar Pradesh says a viral claim on the social media.

The official Twitter handle of the Samajwadi Party's media cell wrote on Twitter, that the Yogi Adityanath Government in Uttar Pradesh is going to offer jobs worth Rs 80 lakhs to those who smoke or consume cannabis in the state.

The account also posted a graphic card with the logo of ABP News and in the background was an image of a marijuana plant in the background. " Marijuana users will now have employment opportunities with salaries of over Rs 80 lakh," the caption read.

Many other users on Twitter shared the viral claim. Some said, "anything is possible in Yogi Raj.'

While reverse searching the image, we were led to the Instagram account of ABP News. On reading the caption, OneIndia learnt that the graphic by ABP News has nothing to do with a decision taken by the Yogi Adityanath government. The ABP News graphic on Instagram posted on February 16 2023 spoke about jobs being offered by a German company for cannabis smokers.

A German Company named Cannamedical is offering jobs with a salary amounting to Rs 88 lakh to those who spoke marijuana.

We came across another report updated on February 17, which spoke about the same news. "The role of a cannabis tester may earn you a salary of approximately Rs 88 lakh read the news item.

The Sun had reported that the firm needed a cannabis expert to verify the efficacy of its productions. The company based in Cologne, recruits individuals who can 'smell, feel and smoke' its medicinal cannabis product to see to pharmacies in Germany. David Henn, founder and CEO of the company told the tabloid that they do this to keep an eye on the quality control of their vendors in countries including Canada, Denmark, Australia, Macedonia and Portugal.

This makes it clear that the Samajwadi Party's media cell is peddling lies to show the Yogi Adityanath government in poor light. The news in circulation about cannabis smokers being offered jobs worth Rs 80 lakh is from Germany and not Uttar Pradesh.
